What is a Trust?

  • A trust is a legal agreement whereby you transfer assets to the trust to be managed by a trustee.
  • The trustee administers the trust and manages the assets for the settlor's (the person or institution that establishes the trust) benefit and for the benefit of others as instructed by the settlor of the trust.
  • A trust can be used directly or through other entities owned and controlled by the trust (such as underlyingcompanies (for further information see "tax benefits"), holding companies and more) to own virtually any assets anywhere in the world, including:
  • Real estate assets;
  • Company shares (private or public);
  • Quoted shares, bonds and other securities;
  • Cash – in any currency and in any banking institutions;
  • Intellectual property rights;
  • Life insurance policies.
